of Courts, " sub-title "Clerks of Circuit Courts, " relating
to the recording of deeds and other legal instruments
affecting the title to land and personal property.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly, of
Maryland, That Section 59 and Section 62 of Article 17 of
the Code of Public General Laws of Maryland (1924 Edi-
tion), title "Clerks of Courts, " sub-title "Clerks of Circuit
Courts, " be and the same are hereby repealed and re-en-
acted with amendments so as to read as follows:

59. The Clerks of the Circuit Courts for the several
counties and of the Superior Court of Baltimore City shall
record all deeds, mortgages and other instruments affecting
the title to or any interest in land, required to be recorded,
in a well-bound book or books to be styled "Land Records";
and shall record all bills of sale, chattel mortgages and
other instruments affecting the title to or any interest in
personal property, required to be recorded, in another well-
bound book or books to be styled "Chattel Records"; all of
which books shall be provided by said clerks and each of
which books shall contain an alphabetical index of the
names of all the parties to such instruments of writing as
, are recorded thereon; provided that they shall hot be re-
quired to record or receive for recording, any deed, mort-
gage, bill of sale, chattel mortgage, or other instrument of
writing, unless the fees for recording the same as regu-
lated by law shall first be paid by the person offering the
same for record.

62. They shall continue and keep up the alphabetical
indexes required by the preceding section, by noting at
the time of recording any deed, mortgage, bill of sale or
other conveyance, the names of parties, and the character
of the conveyance in such alphabetical index, in the man-
ner prescribed in the preceding section; and such in-
dexes shall constitute and be a part of the recording of all
deeds, mortgages, bills of sale and other instruments re-
quired by law to be recorded.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1st, 1933.
