Court, " as said section was amended by Chapter 43 of
the Acts of 1931, decreasing the compensation of the
probation officer appointed by the Magistrate for Juve-
nile Cases for Washington County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Section 561 of Article 22 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title
"Washington County, " sub-title "Justices of the Peace, "
sub-heading "Juvenile Court, " as said section was amended
by Chapter 43 of the Acts of 1931, be and it is hereby
repealed and re-enacted with amendments to read as
follows:

561. The Magistrate for Juvenile Cases for Washing-
ton County may appoint a probation officer, who may be
either male or female, who shall be paid in monthly in-
stallments, two-thirds by the County Commissioners of
said county, and one-third by the Mayor and City Council
for Hagerstown, a salary to be fixed by said Magistrate
for Juvenile Cases not exceeding $1, 200. 00 per annum.
It shall be the duty of such officer to inform himself
or herself when any child is to be brought before said
Magistrate for Juvenile Cases, to make investigation
of all such cases, to be present before said magistrate to
represent the interest of the child when the case is heard,
to furnish said magistrate with such information and as-
sistance as said magistrate may require, to take change
of such child before or after the trial if the said magis-
trate shall so direct; and whenever such probation officer
shall have knowledge of any dependent, neglected or de-
linquent child, it shall be the duty of such officer to bring
the same to the attention of said magistrate by petition,
as hereinbefore provided. In addition to the salary above
provided for such probation officer, he or she shall be al-
lowed for all actual and reasonable traveling expenses when
in the discharge of duties imposed by order of said magis-
trate, to be paid two-thirds by the County Commissioners
and one-third by the Mayor and City Council of Hagers-
town upon the approval and order of said magistrate; and
the County Commissioners of Washington County and the
Mayor and City Council for Hagerstown shall and they are
hereby vested with full power and authority to make all
necessary levies and appropriations to pay the salary and
expenses of such probation officer, as well as all other sal-
aries and expenses provided to be paid by this Act.
