paid over to him by the bailiff of said town, or
any other person for the use of said town, and shall
also well and truly pay over to the Commissioners,
or their order, all sums of money so received by
him; and the said bond shall be recorded in the
office of the Circuit Court for Caroline county, at
the expense of the corporation, a copy of which
said bond shall be evidence under the seal of said
court.

To be taxed.

Sec. 11. And be it enacted, That the President
and Commissioners may levy upon any person
keeping for common use a billiard table or ten pin
alley within said town, or within one mile thereof,
an annual tax of fifty dollars, and an annual tax of
two dollars on every dog, and five dollars on every
bitch belonging to, or kept by any inhabitant of
said town, and may direct the killing of any dog
or bitch whose owner cannot be ascertained, or who
refuses or neglects to pay said tax within one
month after the same is demanded; they shall ap-
ply all money collected by them from taxes, penal-
ties, fines and forfeitures to defray the expenses of
regulating and improving the streets, lanes and
alleys, pumps and wells in said town, in such
manner as they shall deem expedient, and paying
their clerk and the bailiff of said town such com-
pensation as they may deem reasonable, and the
County Commissioners of Caroline county, shall
levy upon the citizens of said county the sum of
fifty dollars annually and pay over the same to the
treasurer of the corporation for the purpose of
keeping in repair the public streets in the said
town of Denton, and its public thoroughfares.

Sec. 12. And be it enacted, That the public
ground of Denton, on which the market house,
lodge house and school house stand and all the
public ground between the market house and
school house and between the school house
and Gay street, and ten feet of public ground
immediately contiguous to the west side of said
market house, through from Market street to
Gay street, is vested in the said President and

Proviso.

Commissioners and their successors; provided, they
shall not erect thereon any other than public build-
ings for the use of said town; the house over the
market house, which was built by the members of
Washington Lodge No. fifty-nine of Free and Ac-
