CHAPTER 116.

AN ACT to incorporate the Colored Laboring Sons
and Daughters Beneficial Society of Hagers-
town.

Passed Feb,
8, 1866.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That Henry Darks, Charles Reeder,
Jacob F. Wheeton, Jeremiah Farmer, Lloyd
Morgan, Samuel Lake, Cornelius Green and [and]
the officers and members of the Colored Laboring
Sons and Daughters Beneficial Society of Hagers-
town, they and their successors, be and they are
hereby, declared a body politic for the objects and
intentions of said society, which are hereby declar-
ed to be for mutual aid and assistance and benevo-
lent purposes generally.

Incorporated.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That said society shall
have power to make a constitution and by-laws to
carry out their purposes, and the same to alter,
amend or abolish at pleasure; provided, they shall
in no wise conflict with the Constitution and Laws
of the State of Maryland, or of the United States
of America, in which they may require such dues
and fines as may be necessary; they may also
receive donations, invest their funds in stocks, per-
sonal or real estate, or in such manner as they, or
a majority of them, may deem best; provided, they
shall at no time have, hold or possess property,
exceeding in value the sum of ten thousand dol-
lars.

successors may sue and be sued, implead and be
impleaded, in accordance with the laws of this
State, to have and use a common seal, and the
