Also,

House bill entitled an Act to repeal chapter 17 of the Acts
of 1874, entitled an Act to repeal Sections 323 and 324 of
the Public Local Laws of Frederick county, and re-enact the
same with amendments.

Was read the first time and referred to Messrs. Steiner,
Mudd and Suit.

Also,

House bill entitled an Act granting the sanction of the
General Assembly to the bequests of Margaret, E. Morton,
late of Calvert county, deceased, to the vestry of St. Paul's
Parish Church in Calvert county.

Which was read the first time and referred to the Com-
mittee on Judicial Proceedings.

The President presented the following :

HEAD QUARTERS, FIFTH REGIMENT INFANTRY,
Maryland National Guard,

Baltimore, Jan. 22d,1876,
Son. Daniel Fields,

President of Senate of Maryland :

Sir : Gen. Herbert having ordered this Regiment for In-
spection on Tuesday, 25th inst., at 8 P. M., I have the honor
to invite the Senate to be present on the occasion, as there
will then be a favorable opportunity of determining the ma-
terial of the command, their proficiency in arms, and the
condition of their equipment, so that the members of the
Senate will be able to vote more advisedly upon any question
relative to the militia that may be presented for their action.

Lt. Col. Comdg.

On motion by Mr. Stevens,
The invitation was respectfully accepted by the Senate.
