The President presented a memorial from the Maryland
State Grange, praying the adoption of some measures upon
the part of the General Assembly, to relieve the agricultural
interest from the oneroas burthen that now oppresses it, by
reason of the exemption of taxation of so large a portion of
the property of the State.
Which was read and referred to the Committee on Fi-
nance.
Mr. Brewer presented the memorial of Richard I. Bowie,
praying that his term of office as Judge of the 6th Judicial
Circuit, be extended in pursuance of the 3d Section of the 4th
Article of the Constitution.
Which was read and referred to the Committee on Judi-
cial Proceedings.
On motion by Mr. Brewer, it was
Ordered, That the Chairman of the Committee on Claims
be directed to issue his certificate to Caleb Stewart, for fif-
teen days services as Janitor in rear of the Rotunda.
On motion by Mr. Knight, it was
Ordered, That leave of absence be granted to the Commit-
tee on the Chesapeake Bay and its Tributaries, for Friday,
the 21st. that they may visit with the State Fish Commis-
sioners, the hatching honses at Druid Hill Park.
Which was adopted.
On motion by Mr. Phelps, it was
Ordered, That the Committee on Judical Proceedings in-
quire into the propriety and expediency of reporting a bill,
so to alter and amend the Constitution of this State as to
render ineligible to office within this State, or in the General
Government, the Governor, Judges of the District Courts,
or Judges of the Court of Appeals, and all members of either
branch of the General Assembly, to any office of honor, or
profit, during the terms for which any one of them may have
been elected, and that said committee have leave to report
by bill or otherwise.
