MONDAY, March 20th, 1876.
Senate met at 12 M.
Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Canter.
Present at roll call the following Senators:

Messrs. Aydelotte, Bannon, Brewer, Cooper, Duke, Free-
man, Ford, Getty, German Humphreys, Joyce, Lee,
Lawrence, Phelps, Stevens, Steiner, Suit, Walsh—18.

The roll having been called and the President of the Senate
being found absent, his absence was duly announced by the
Secretary,

When,

On motion by Mr. Gorman,

Hon. John Carroll Walsh was elected President pro-tem.

Proceedings of Friday's Session were read and approved.

Mr. Suit presented the memorial of Mrs. J. B. Perrie, R.
W Perrie, and 100 other ladies, of Prince George's county,
against the sale of liquor.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Fi-
nance.

On motion by Mr. Stevens, it was

Ordered, That five thousand copies of the speech of the
Senator from Anne Arundel upon the Joint Resolutions in
relation to the Canal question, be printed lor the use of the
Senate, and that the sum of five hundred dollars, or so much
thereof us may he necessary, be paid by the Chairman of the
Committee on Claims for the same.

On motion by Mr. Aydelotte, it was

Ordered, That the Messenger to the Printer be, and hereby
is directed to respectfully request the distribution among Sena-
tors, within the next three days, a due number of the copies
of the Public School Report for the year 1875.

On motion by Mr. Lee,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceed-
ings, to introduce a bill to amend Article 95, of the Code of
Public General Laws, title ''Usury," by adding a sixth Sec-
tion thereto.

On motion by Mr. Cooper,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Finance, to intro-
duce a bill to refund to the Directors of the Maryland Peni-
tentiary, money erroneously paid into the State Treasury.
