Secretary.

The hour of 1 o'clock having arrived the President an-
nounced the order of the day to be the following bills:

1st. Senate bill entitled an Act to appropriate a sum of
money to defray the expenses of the Adjutant General in de-
fending a mandamus to maintain possession of the office of
Adjutant General and its archives,

Was read the third time and passed by yeas and nays as
follows:

AFFIRMATIVE.

Messrs. President, Humphreys,
Aydelotte, Joyce,
Bannon, Knight,
Brewer, Lee,
Cooper, Lawrence,
Ford, Lloyd,
Getty, Stevens,
Gorman, Suit—17
Hepbron,

NEGATIVE

Messrs. Duke, Newcomer,
Dennis, Steiner—5
Freeman,

Said bill was then sent to the House of Delegates.
2d. Senate bill entitled an Act to provide for the general
valuation and assessment of property in this State.
Being upon its second reading,
Mr. Brewer submittei the following amendment

AMENDMENT PROPOSED

Line 13, strikeout the word "except," and insert the word
"and."

Mr. Dennis submitted the following amendment:

AMENDMENT PROPOSED.

Line 16, aiter the woid "thereon," insert the words
which are only a collateral security for the payment of a debt
or some money obligation."

Pending the consideration of the amendments,

On motion by Mr. Phelps,
The Senate at 3 25 P M., adjourned.
