and all useful reading matter at their disposal, put up in-
packages, and forwarded by express to the Clerk of the Supe-
rior Court of Baltimore city, and to the Clerks of the differ-
ent counties.

Resolved, That the Clerks be ordered to pay the express
charges on the same, and hold them subject to the order of
the American and German Benevolent Society of Maryland,
said books, phamplets, &c., to form a nucelus for a public
reading room or lyceum, to be established in the different
towns throughout the State.

Resolved, That the sum of $50, or as much of it as is neces-
sary, is hereby appropriated out of any money in the Trea-
sury , not heretofore appropriated, to pay for the transporta-
tion of said books and documents.

And be it further resolved, That these resolutions be printed,
and a copy be sent to our Senators and Members of Congress,
and to the Clerks of the respective Courts above-named.

Which were read the first time.

Mr. Stevens, from Committee on Judicial Proceedings, re-
ported unfavorably,

The memorial of John K. Skinner, John W. Wood and
20 others, praying that a poll-tax be imposed.

Which was adopted.

And favorably the following bills:

Senate bill entitled an Act to repeal Section 168, of Article
93, of the Code of Public General Laws, relating to the in-
vestments by guardians of the moneys of their wards, and to
re-enact the same with amendments.

Also,

Senate bill entitled an Act to repeal Sections 171 and 172
of Art. 93, of the Code of Public General Laws, relating to
the investment by guardians of the proceeds of sales of real
estate belonging to their wards, sold by a trustee in equity,
and to re-enact the same.

Also,

Senate bill entitled an Act to repeal, amend and re-enact
Sections 459, 464, 467, 469, 470 and 475 of Art. 4, of the
Code of Public Local Laws, title "City of Baltimore," sub-
title "Livestock."

Which were read the first time.

Also, favorably,

House bill entitled an Act to commute the term of impris-
onment of such prisoners in the Maryland Penitentiary, as
shall be found worthy.
