111. It shall be the duty of the County Surveyors of the
several counties in this State to attend to the perpetuation of
the original beginnings and other boundaries within the
counties, so that the same may not be lost through neglect,
and where the beginnings are imperfectly marked, or in dan-
ger of being entirely obliterated, or, being obliterated, can be
with certainty revived, it shall be the duty of said Surveyor
to notiiy the parties interested in the lands depending on
such beginnings to meet him at the place on a certain day,
and have a suitable stone there ready and properly lettered,
to plant and perpetuate such beginning, and if the person or
persons interested will not bring such stone, or refuse or neg-
lect to meet ea.d Surveyor at the appointed time and place,
said Surveyor shall proceed forthwith to procure and plant
such boundary-stone, and shall make return to the County
Commissioners, of the expense incurred, and to whom due,
and it shall be the duty of the County Commissioners to levy
such expenses upon the parties so summoned by the Surveyor,
and be paid by them as other county taxes, for the use and
benefit of said Surveyor, or the person or person to whom it
is due.

112. Any person or persons who shall willfully erase,
deface, displace or otherwise injure or destroy any of the
boundary stones, or the stones to be placed as hereinbefore
provided, or shall remove, deface or destroy, or willfully
cover over any existing boundary stone, shall upon conviction
thereof, be punished by a fine of not less than fifty, nor
more than five hundred dollars, and any surveyor, or writer
of any deed or mortgage who shall neglect or disregard the
provisions of this Act, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor,
and liable to presentment, and it' found guilty, shall pay a
fine of not less than fifty dollars, and not more than five
hundred dollars.

113. That it shall be the duty of the County Surveyor of
the several counties, and of the City of Baltimore, in this
State, on the first day of January, in each and every year,
to file a written report with the Clerk of the Circuit Court
of the respective counties, and the Clerk of the Superior
Court of Baltimore city, in which he shall give the variation
of the needle for that year, noting any peculiarities, if any,
which may have occurred in the movement of the same, that
may be of practical utility to the profession, and it shall be
the duty of the said clerks to record the same in a book to be
kept for that purpose, which said book shall be purchased by
the said clerks of the several counties, and of the City of
Baltimore, and the said clerks shall be allowed the same fees
for recording said reports as is allowed for recording deeds,
the said book and fees to be paid for by the County Commis-
