ate and House of Delegates respectively, be appointed, whose
duty it shall be to inquire and report as soon as practicable
to the General Assembly of Maryland whether or not at anj'
time since the first of January, 1868, the public money of
the State has been loaned or deposited to or with any indivi-
dual, bank or other corporation, or any association of per-
sons whatsoever.

2d. If there has been any such loan or deposit, was the
name gratuitous or for a consideration, either expressed or
implied?

3d. If for a consideration, what wag the consideration, its
nature and terms ? By whom was the said loan or deposit
made, and to whom was it made, and has the said considera-
tion been paid or any equivalent therefor given ?

4th. What was the amount of said loan or deposit ?

5th. That said Committee shall have power and authority
to summon witnesses, to take testimony under oath in due
form of law, to send for persons and papers, and to report by
bill or otherwise.

Pending the reading of the resolutions,

Mr. Bannon moved to amend by striking out the first reso-
lution the words, "a committee of five, consisting of two on
the part of the Senate and three on the part of the House of
Delegates respectively, to be appointed, whose duty it shall
be," and insert, "the Joint Committee of the Senate and
House of Delegates, appointed under Section 24, of Article
3, of the Constitution."
