NEGATIVE.

Aydelotte, Knight,
Brewer, Lee,
Cooper, Lloyd,
Ford, McCulloh,
Getty, Phelps,
Gorman, Stevens,
Hepbron, Walsh—17
Humphreys,

The question recurring upon the adoption of the message
it was determined in the affirmative.

On motion of Mr. Humphreys, it was

Ordered, That the Librarian be authorize 1 to furnish to
. each member of the Senate, a copy of the Constitution and
a copy of the Code and Supplements, to be returned to the
Library at the close of the session.

The hour of two having arrived, the Committee appointed
by the House appeared at the bar of the Senate to conduct
the Senators to the Hall of the House of Delegates for the
purpose of opening the returns of the election for Governor
of Maryland as had been previously agreed upon, when the
following proceedings were had:

The Speaker, as Chairman of the Joint Convention, opened
the returns for the election of Governor, and they were read
by the Clerk.

It was found that the Hon. John Lee Carroll had received
85,454 votes and Hon. J. Morrison Harris had received
72,530 votes.

Whereupon the Speaker as Chairman of the Joint Con-
vention of the two Houses declared that the Hon. John Lee
Carroll having received a majority of all the votes cast, was
duly elected Governor for the term as prescribed by the pro-
visions of the Constitution, Article 2, Section 1.

At 2.20 P. M., the Senators returned to the Senate.
Mr. Walsh submitted the following Message :

BY THE SENATE,

January 6, 1876.
Gentlemen of the House of Delegates:

We propose, with the concurrence of your Honorable
Body, the appointment of a Committee of two on the part of
the Senate, to wait on his Excellency, John Lee Carroll, the
Governor elect, and inform him of his election, and request
