Mr. Getty moved to insert Garrett county.

Mr. Lee moved to insert Carroll county. .

Which was adopted.

Mr. Walsh moved to insert Caroline county.

Which was adopted.

Said bill, as amended, was then read the second time.

Senate bill entitled an Act to extend the jurisdiction of
Justices of the Peace for Garrett county in cases of assault
and battery,

Being upon its second reading,

Mr. Getty submitted the following amendments :

And be it enacted, That the said Justices of the Peace for
the said counties, are hereby authorized and required to make
to the County Commissioners of said counties, on the first
days of January and July of each year, proper returns (un-
der oath, to be taken before any Justice of the Peace,) of all
fines or penalties imposed by this Act, and to pay over to
the said County Commissioners all moneys they have received
arising from such fines or penalties.

And if any Justice of the Peace shall fail to make said
returns and pay over said moneys, as herein required, he
shall be reported by the County Commissioners to the Gov-
ernor of the State, and shall by him be removed therefor.

And he may be indicted by the grand jury of said county,
and upon conviction may be fined for said default, not ex-
ceeding five hundred dollars, in the discretion of the Court.

Which was adopted.

Said bill was then read the second time and ordered to be
engrossed for a third reading.

Senate bill entitled an Act authorizing the Mayor and City
Council of Baltimore to provide for the Inspection of Coal Oil
in the City of Baltimore, and for the appointment of Inspect-
ors for that purpose,

Being upon its second reading,
On motion by Mr. Stevens,

Was ordered to lie over and be printed.
