ties of Montgomery and Frederick, constituting the Sixth
Judicial Circuit of the State of Maryland, Chief Judge of th
said Circuit, on the Tuesday after the first Monday in No-
vember, in the year one thousand eight hundred and seven-
ty-one, for the term of fifteen years, from the time of his
election, and until his successor is elected and qualified, or
until he shall have attained the age of seventy years,

And whereas, The said Hon. Richard J. Bowie has since
the period of election aforesaid discharged his duties as Chief
Judge of the Sixth Judicial Circuit, and acted and is now
acting as Associate Judge of the Court of Appeals, and will
on the twenty-third day of June, one thousand eight hun-
dred and seventy-seven, (if his life is prolonged,) attain the
age of seventy years, when his term of service will expire
unless it is extended by the General Assembly, by resolution,
pursuant to the third Section of the fourth Article of the
Constitution—

Therefore, The General Assembly, reposing lull confidence
in the ability, integrity, wisdom and sound legal knowledge
of the said Hon. Richard J. Bowie, and deeming it compati-
ble with the public interest to extend his term of service—

Be it resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the term of service of the Hon. Richard J. Bowie, Chief
Judge of the Sixth Judicial Circuit and Associate Judge of
the Com t of Appeals, be, and the same is hereby extended,
and the said Hon. Richard J. Bowie continued in office as
Chief Judge of the Sixth Judicial Circuit until the Tuesday
after the first Monday of November, of the year one thou-
sand eight hundred and eighty-two, and until his successor
is elected and qualified thereafter.

Which was read the first time.
On motion by Mr. Stevens,

The rules were suspended so as to give a second reading
this day to said resolution, by yeas and nays as follows:
