the Acts passed at the Jannary Session, 1872, entitled an
Act to repeal an Act passed at the January Session, 1870,
entitled an Act to repeal an Act passed at the January Ses-
sion, 1868, entitled "Public Education," providing a gen-
«ral system of free public schools for the State of Maryland,
and to repeal all laws inconsistent therewith, and to re-enact
the same with amendments, so far as the same relates to
Washington county, and to enact substitutes therefor.
On motion of Mr. Scott,
The bill was substituted for the unfavorable report and
read the first time.
Mr. Harig, Chairman of the Committee on Claims, re-
ported favorably.
The Senate bill entitled an Act to appropriate a sum of
money to defray the expenses of the Adjutant General in de-
fending a mandamus to maintain possession of the office of
Adjutant General and its archives.
Which was read a second time.
The hour having arrived for the consideration of the order
of the day,
The House proceeded to consider the order of the day,
The bill entitled an Act to repeal sub-Sections 3, and
21 of Section 3, of chapter 483, of the Acts of 1874, en-
titled an Act to repeal Article 81, of the Code of Public Gen-
eral Laws of the State of Maryland, entitled "Revenue and
Taxes," and to re-enact the same with amendments, and re-
enact the same so as to read as follows.
Mr. Stewart proposed the following amendment:
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.
In line 3, printed bill, strike out all from word "State" to
the words "witness" in line 7.
Mr. Whitelock proposed the following amendment to the
amendment.:
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.
Amend Section 3, by striking out all after "State" in line
3, down to and including "cover" in line 5.

The bill was made the order of the day for Monday, March
13th, at 12 M.
The bill entitled an Act to authorize the State Librarian,
to supply to the Librarian of Congress of the United States,
such copies of the reports, laws, journals and documents of
the State of Maryland, of which he may have duplicates as can
be spared from the State Library, not to exceed in any case
two copies of such volume.
