Mr. Boyle presented the petition of William Rodham and
James O. Hinds and 40 other signers, of Harford and Balti-
more counties, for the removal of the Eastern Hay Scales.
Which was read and referred to the Select Committee on
that subject.
Mr. Purnell presented the petition of Joseph Miller, T.
Marshall and others, asking repeal of the law closing barber
shops on Sunday.
Which was read and referred to the Committee on the
Judiciary.
Also,
The petition of George Haywood and others, citizens of Wor-
cester county, protesting against the continuing of the Agri-
cultural College as a preparatory, military or naval school.
Which was read a first time and referred to the Committee
on Education.
Also,
The petition of James H. Yours and others, citizens of Wor-
cester county, against the repeal of the present Local Option
Law in said county.
Which was read and referred to the Committee on Ways
and Means.
Mr. Gunby presented the petition of John W. Sterling and
107 other citizens of Crisfield, in favor of reducing the tax
on license to take oysters, from three dollars to one dollar per
ton.
Which was read and referred to the Committee on the
Chesapeake Bay and its Tributaries.
On motion of Mr. Purnell, it was
Ordered, That Mr. Ford have leave of absence to visit his
family for a few days.
On motion of Mr. Whitelock, it was
Ordered, That the Committee on the Judiciary be ia-
structed to introduce a bill, whereby corporations, organized
under the laws of this State, shall be prohibited from in-
creasing their capital stock by stock dividends, or otherwise,
without the consent of the General Assembly first obtained,
and so regulate the distribution of the increased stock which
may be authorized.
On motion of Mr. Ward, it was
Ordered, That Mr. Briscoe, of Cecil county, be excused
from attendance here to-day, on account of being detained at
home on urgent business.
On motion of Mr. Dodson, it was
Ordered, That Mr. Fitzjarrell be granted leave of absence
to look after his property damaged by the late storm.
