On motion of Mr. Donaldson, it was
Ordered, That Mr. Waters, of Carroll, be excused for non-
attendance on the service of this House on yesterday, as he
was detained by urgent private business.
On motion of Mr. Cockey, it was
Ordered, That Mr. Neal be granted leave of absence in re-
sponse to a message imperatively demanding his attention.
On motion of Mr. Robinson, it was
Ordered, That the Committee on Education have leave to
send for persons and papers and examine them under oath.
On motion of Mr. Stewart,
Leave was granted to the Baltimore city delegation to in-
troduce a bill prescribing the manner in which the City
Council of Baltimore shall confirm the Mayor's appointments,
authorizing the Mayor to notify each Branch that he has
sent to the Council a list of appointees, and directing the
members of both Branches to meet in the First Branch
Chamber, and if there be present in Joint Convention sixteen
members of the City Council, said number shall be a quorum,
and if sixteen members or more confirm said appointees, they
shall be the officers of the Corporation of Baltimore.
On motion of Mr. Gill,
Leave was granted to the Committee on Ways and Means
to introduce a bill entitled an Act making appropriations tor
the support of the State Government for the year ending 31st
December, 1876.
On motion of Mr. Stewart,
Leave was granted to the Baltimore city delegation to in-
troduce a bill instructing the State's Attorney of Baltimore
city and requiring the Attorney General to institute pro-
ceedings against the Gas Companies of Baltimore city, so that
for various wrongs inflicted on the people of said city, and
violations of their charters, the same may be forfeited.
On motion of Mr. Robinson,
Leave was granted to the Anne Arundel and Baltimore
county delegations to introduce a bill to provide lor travel
over the Patapsco, at or near the site of Sweetzer's Bridge.
On motion of Mr. Stewart,
Leave was granted to the Baltimore city delegation to in-
troduce a bill to authorize the Mayor and City Council of
Baltimore to purchase or condemn, for public use, the rights
and property of the Gas Companies in Baltimore city,
On motion of Mr. Bird,
Leave was granted Mesara. Bind, Turner and Hawkins to
introduce a bill entitled an Act to add additional sections
