On motion of Mr. Gill,
Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal that Mr.
McGlone was absent on the 24th inst., on account of im-
portant business, and that he be excused therefor.
On motion of Mr. Brooke,
Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal that Mr. Raw-
lings is absent from his seat, since Thursday last, by sick-
ness.
Mr. Robinson, Chairman of the Committee on Education,
submitted the following order
Ordered, That the Comptroller of the Treasury be re-
quested to furnish this House with a detailed statement of
amounts paid, loaned or made over by the State to every in-
stitution of learning incorporated or otherwise, other than
the free public schools that has received aid from the State, in
this State, since the adoption of the Constitution of 1867,
and the several acts under authority of which such sums
were so paid, loaned or made over
Also,
Ordered, That the Secretary of the State Board of Educa-
tion be requested to furnish this House with a detailed state-
ment of what County School Boards are in debt, and to what
amount, and what County Boards are in arrear to their
teachers, if any, and for what sums, and for how long
Also,
Ordered, That the Visitors and Governors of St. John's
College be requested to furnish to this House copies of the
addresses, &c., referred to at page 4 of their memorial to the
General Assembly presented in this House on the 21st
instant.
Which were severally read and adopted
On motion of Mr. Loane,
Ordered, That the Committee on Corpoiations, to whom
was referred the Orders, concerning the rates of freights and
fares, &c., &c., on the various railroads in the State, for the
purpose of ascertaining if the said roads discriminate against
the Citizens of this State, be and they are hereby authorized
to send for persons and papers, and examine witnesses under
oath, and also to appoint a subcommittee, for the purpose of
gaining such information on the subject as is possible.
On motion of Mr. Scott,
Ordered, That the Comptroller of the Treasury furnish to
this House forthwith, a detailed statement of the disburse-
