1070 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Mar. 22,
Mr. Ranger submitted the following amendment:
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.
Add at the end of Section 2, ehap. 10, ''Provided, the pa-
trons of any school may purchase their books of whom they
chose."
Which was adopted.
Mr. Lambdin submitted the following amendment:
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.
Chap. 10, Sec. 2, line 10, after the word "Report," add,
"together with the cost of books furnished indigent pupils."
Which was adopted.
Mr. Snowden submitted the following amend ment:
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.
"That no money appropriated for school purposes shall be
paid out for board of teachers, when they meet at their
associations."
Which was read.
Mr. Goldsborough submitted the following amendment.
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.
"But any teacher foiling to meet such association, shall
not be deemed having resigned."
Which was adopted.
The question then recurring upon the adoption of the
amendment submitted by Mr. Snowden, as amended by the
amendment submitted by Mr.Goldsborough,
It was adopted.
Mr. Scott, submitted the following amendment:
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.
Alter Section 2, add, "Provided, however, That the pro-
visions of this Act shall not apply to Washington county,
and the County Commissioners of said county be, and they
are hereby, empowered to appoint on the first day of July
next succeeding the passage of this Act, five persons, who
shall constitute the Board of County School Commissioners
of Washington county, who shall have complete and entire
control of the Public Schools in Washington county."
The question recurring upon the adoption of the amend-
ment,
Mr. McGloue demanded the previous question,
The question then being,
"Shall the main question be now put?"
It was sustained.
