Mr. Hooper submitted the following amendment:
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.
Sec. 12, chap. 4. "Scholars residing in one county shall
be allowed to attend a school in another county where the
said school is more convenient to said scholars than the near-
est school to them in the county in which they reside, with
the consent of the School Commissioners."
Which was read.
The question recurring upon the adoption of the amend-
ment,
Mr. McGlone demanded the previous question.
The question then being,
"Shall the main question be now put?"
It was sustained.
The question then recurring upon the adoption of the
amendment,
It was adopted.
Mr. Donaldson submitted the following amendment:
AMENDMENT PROPOSED,
Chap. 10, Sec. 2, line 13, after the word "proposals," in-
sert the words, "for such text-books as they shall determine
upon for use in the schools of their county."
Which was adopted.
Mr. Whitelock submitted the following amendment:
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.
Chapter 10, line 1, after the word "advertisement," in-
sert, "and shall then award the contract to the lowest re-
sponsible bidder."
Which was read.
Mr. Given submitted the following amendment to the
amendment:
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.
"Provided, however, That when books are adopted, no
change shall take place within five years, nor until the pres-
ent supply of books has been exhausted."
Which was adopted.
