1016 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Mar. 21,
Mr. Naill submitted the following order:
WHEREAS, It has been the custom in preceding Legisla-
tures, for the Committee on Engrossed Bills, to receive extra
compensation for their services,
And whereas, This custom is liable to great abuse, and has
been greatly abused,
And whereas, It is in every way desirable to fix a certain
compensation for the extra services -of the members of the
committee, therefore be it
Ordered, That each member of the Committee on Engross-
ed Bills, shall receive for each Say on which he may be actu-
ally employed in the work of said committee after the ad-
journment of this House, $5 per day, and also the usual
mileage from and to his place of residence, and no more shall
be paid to any member of said Committee for his services on
such Committee.
Which was read.
On motion of Mr. Naill, it was
Ordered, That if Mr. Boyer, of Kent county, had been
present when the bill entitled "an Act to repeal the exemp-
tions of the capital stock of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad
Company, or any of its branch roads or its or their property,
real, personal or mixed from taxation for State, county or
municipal purposes," was passed, he would have voted for
said bill and accompanying resolutions.
On motion of Mr. Vandiver, it was
Ordered, That Mr. Constable, of Cecil, be granted leave
of absence for a few days on account of important business.
Mr. Koons submitted the following order :
Ordered, That the Committee on Section 24, Article 3, of
the Constitution, be and they are hereby requested to sum-
mon before them the Secretary of the Senate, for the purpose
of inquiring into the matters of public interest embraced in
the order of the House, adopted on the 29th of January last.
Which was read.
The question recurring upon the adoption of the order,
Mr. Koons demanded the yeas and nays.
The demand being sustained,
