818 LAWS OF MARYLAND. [CH. 417

588A. For the purpose of removing confusion due to a
duplication of street names and in order to secure a uni-
formity of street names and numbering of houses, the said
Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission is
hereby authorized and empowered to name and re-name any
street or highway and to number and re-number the houses
within the boundaries of the Maryland-Washington Metro-
politan District lying within Montgomery County. The said
Commission shall have the power to correct mistakes and to
change existing names of streets and highways, and to re-name
said streets and highways from time to time and to place or
to have placed proper signs showing or indicating the names
of streets and highways, and shall also have the power to
change existing numbers of houses and to change said num-
bers from time to time, provided each new number or change of
number is reported to the owner or occupant of the building,
and to place or have placed the new numbers on the building
or premises. The said Commission shall also have the power
to make reasonable rules and regulations for carrying out any
of the changes in street or highway names or numbers of houses,
and any violation of said rules and regulations shall be
deemed a misdemeanor and shall be punishable before a
Justice of the Peace, and every act or omission designated as
a misdemeanor in this Act unless otherwise provided, shall be
punishable before a Justice of the Peace or the Circuit Court
of Montgomery County and the offender shall, upon convic-
tion, be subject to a fine not exceeding One Hundred Dollars
($100. 00) or thirty (30) days in the County Jail, or both, in
the discretion of the Court, where such an act or omission is of
a continuing nature, or is persisted in, in violation of the pro-
visions of this Act or of any rule or regulation formulated
thereunder, a conviction for any offense shall not be a bar to
a conviction for a continuation of such offense subsequent to
the first or any succeeding conviction.

588B. For the purpose of paying the costs and expenses in
carrying out the provisions of this Act the County Commis-
sioners of Montgomery County are hereby authorized and
directed to levy for the year 1937-1938 only, against all of the
property within that portion of the Seventh Election District
and of all the Precincts of the Thirteenth Election Dis-
trict except the First Precinct as the boundaries of said Dis-
tricts and Precincts existed on January 1, 1937, of the Mary-
land-Washington Metropolitan District within Montgomery
County assessed for the purpose of County taxation, a tax in
the amount of one-half (%) cent on each One Hundred Dollars
($100. 00) of assessed valuation, which tax shall be levied and
collected in the same manner and have the same priority rights,
bear the same interest and penalties and in every respect be
