ban Sanitary Commission from four years to six years; to
extend the terms of office of each of the three members of
said Commission now in office for two years from May 1,
1937, and to authorize the said Commission to formulate
and adopt a pension or retirement plan for its employees.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 991 of Article 16 of the Code of Public Lo-
cal Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Montgomery
County," sub-title "Washington Suburban Sanitary District,''
and Section 1015 of Article 17 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Prince George's
County", sub-title "Washington Suburban Sanitary District",
be and the same are hereby repealed and re-enacted with
amendments to read as follows:

991 (1015). For the purpose of carrying out the provisions
of this sub-title, said Sanitary District shall be under the juris-
diction of a Commission of three members, one to be ap-
pointed by the County Commissioners of Montgomery County,
one by the County Commissioners of Prince George's County,
both upon the recommendation of the State Board of Health
of Maryland, and the third to be named by the Governor of
of Maryland, the first appointments hereunder to be made on
or before May 1, 1918, upon which date the terms of office shall
begin. All appointees shall be residents and taxpayers of said
Sanitary District and shall serve for six years, or until
their successors are appointed and have qualified, and the
term of office of each of the three Commissioners of said Sani-
tary District now in office and whose terms of office expire on
the first day of May, 1937, is hereby extended to the first day
of May, 1939, and until their successors are appointed and have
qualified. Upon the expiration of the terms of the members
of said Commission, their successors shall be named in the
same manner as the original appointments were made. Any
vacancy occurring at any time in the personnel of the Com-
mission shall be filled by the agency making the original ap-
pointment and for the unexpired term. The annual salary of
the Chairman of said Commission shall be three thousand dol-
lars, and of one of said Commissioners, not from the same
County as the Chairman, forty-eight hundred dollars, and for
the third Commissioner two thousand dollars, all payable
monthly. The Chairman and the Commissioner to receive
forty-eight hundred dollars shall be designated by the Gover-
nor and the Commissioner so designated to receive forty-eight
hundred dollars shall give all of his time and attention to the
duties of his office, shall supervise and superintend the out-
side operations of said Commission, and shall perform such
other duties as the Commission shall from time to time des-
