13TO JOINT RESOLUTIONS.

WHEREAS, the said William P. Stydinger has litigated this
matter in the Baltimore City Court, where it was ruled by his
Honor Judge Roland K. Adams that the case must be with-
drawn from the consideration of a jury because the action
amounts to a suit against the State; and

WHEREAS, the said injuries received by the said William P.
Stydinger were not caused by any negligence on his part; there-
fore be it

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
Board of Public Works be and it is hereby requested to pay to
William P. Stydinger the sum of Thirty-seven Hundred and
Fifty Dollars ($ 3750. 00), in monthly installments of $50. 00.

The said sum to be paid out of the contingent fund appro-
priated to the said Board of Public Works for the State
Budget in the year 1936-1937.

NO. 23.

Joint Resolution requesting Congress to increase the gasoline
tax in the District of Columbia.

WHEREAS, the present rate of tax on gasoline in the District
of Columbia is lower than the rates imposed by Maryland and
Virginia, and

WHEREAS, this results in a hardship on the gasoline dealers
in the State of Maryland adjoining the District of Columbia,
and

WHEREAS, most of the States have a higher rate of tax on
gasoline than the District of Columbia, therefore, be it

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
United States Congress be and it is hereby requested to enact
legislation increasing the tax on gasoline to four cents (4c)
per gallon in the District of Columbia; and be it further

Resolved, That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby
requested to send under the Great Seal of the State of Mary-
land a copy of this Resolution to the President of the Senate,
the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and to each of
the Senators and Representatives from Maryland in the United
States Congress.
