1, 308 LAWS OF MARYLAND. [CH. 541

Roads Commission may demand plans, specification or cost
estimates from any incorporated town showing where and how
each such town shall expend its allocation. If such plans,
specifications and estimates of any town are not satisfactory
to the said State Roads Commission, the said Commission
shall refuse to pay the said allotment to said town and such
allotment shall be credited to Frederick County. All street
construction and maintenance work shall be done under com-
petent supervision and in accordance with the plans and
specifications approved by the Commission.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1937.

CHAPTER 541.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 144
of Article 22 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland
(1930 Edition), title "Washington County", sub-title "Coun-
ty Commissioners", fixing the salary of the County Clerk,
authorizing the County Commissioners to employ an assist-
ant to the County Clerk and an Attorney for said Com-
missioners and fix their compensation.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 144 of Article 22 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Washington
County", sub-title "County Commissioners", be and it is here-
by repealed and re-enacted with amendments to read as fol-
lows:

144. The County Clerk shall receive for his services an
annual salary of Two Thousand Dollars ($2, 000. 00), pay-
able in equal monthly installments by the County Commis-
sioners of Washington County. The said County Commis-
sioners are hereby authorized and empowered to employ an
assistant to the County Clerk, who shall receive for his serv-
ices an annual salary fixed by the County Commissioners at
their discretion but not exceeding Fifteen Hundred Dollars
($1, 500. 00), payable in equal monthly installments, and to
employ an attorney for said Commissioners, who shall receive
for his services an annual salary fixed by the County Com-
missioners at their discretion but not exceeding Seven Hun-
dred and Twenty Dollars ($720. 00), payable in equal monthly
installments. The said County Commissioners are hereby
