and to enact in lieu thereof Sections 753, 754, 755, 756, 757,
757A and 757B, relating to the powers, duties and remuner-
ation of the Sheriff of Washington County and of certain
Deputy Sheriffs.

CHAPTER 537.
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 3J
of Article 20 of the Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930
Edition), title "Somerset County", sub-title "County Com-
missioners", regulating the compensation and duties of, and
to provide for an office for, the County Commissioners of
Somerset County and providing for a referendum thereon.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 31 of Article 20 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Somerset County",
sub-title "County Commissioners", be and it is hereby repealed
and re enacted with amendments to read as follows:
31. There shall be three county commissioners for Somerset
County, who shall hold office for four years, and until their
successors shall be elected and qualified. At their first meet-
ing after taking office, the County Commissioners shall, by
majority vote, select one of the number to act as Chairman.
The Chairman shall receive one thousand dollars ($1, 000) pel-
year and each of the other members one thousand dollars
($1, 000) per year as full compensation for his services. The
Commissioners shall have an office in the Court House in
Princess Anne, and shall have a Clerk appointed by said Com-
missioners at a salary of eight hundred dollars ($800) per
year. The said Clerk shall be a stenographer, shall keep
minutes of all meetings and shall be in the office of the County
Commissioners during the hours when the office of the County
Treasurer is open. The County Commissioners shall hold reg-
ular meetings on Tuesday of each week and at least one of said
County Commissioners shall be in the office on Friday of each
week.
SEC. 1A. And 6e it further enacted, That this Act shall
not become effective until it shall have been submitted, for
adoption or rejection, to the qualified voters of Somerset
County at the General Election to be held in November, 1938,
