to prohibit the County Commissioners from contributing
to the support of any Volunteer Fire Department unless
it is inspected and approved yearly by the Board of Fire
Commissioners.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Sections 278 and 279 of Article 2 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Anne
Arundel County", sub-title "Fire Commissioners", be and they
are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:

278. A Board of Fire Commissioners consisting of three
(3) members shall be appointed by the County Commissioners
of Anne Arundel County. The members of this Board shall
be appointed from a list of not less than three names for each
vacancy, to be submitted by the Anne Arundel County Volun-
teer Firemen's Association for appointment. Only one mem-
ber may be appointed from any one election district. The
term of office for the members of said Board shall be for
three years from date of appointment and until their succes-
sors have been appointed. The term of office of the members
of the first Board appointed hereunder shall be one member
each for a term of one, two and three years respectively, to
be designated by the County Commissioners. The County
Commissioners may remove any member at any time for cause
after a hearing and in such event his successor shall be ap-
pointed for his unexpired term, in the manner hereinbefore
set forth. For the faithful performance of their duties each
member shall be paid annually the sum of one hundred dol-
lars. The Board of Fire Commissioners shall have supervi-
sory jurisdiction over the Fire Department chauffeurs. They
are empowered to establish rules and regulations to govern
the qualifications and duties of the fire chauffeurs, regulations
governing vacations, and formation of new fire departments,
subject to the approval of such rules and regulations by the
County Commisisoners. This Act shall not apply to the City
of Annapolis.

279. The County Commissioners of Anne Arundel County
shall not levy any sum for or contribute to the support of
any Volunteer Fire Department unless the Volunteer Fire
Department is inspected and approved by the Board of Fire
Commissioners, yearly as to the minimum requirements. The
minimum requirements for equipment shall be approved and
adopted by the County Commsisioners. The County Commis-
sioners shall not levy any sum for or contribute to the support
of any Volunteer Fire Department unless the same has been
organized with the approval and on the recommendation of the
