blank square opposite at the right, and all qualified voters
desiring to vote for the provisions of this Act shall place
a cross mark (X) in the square opposite the words "For
Compensation for Mayor and Councilmen", and all qualified
voters desiring to vote against the provisions of this Act
shall place a cross-mark (X) opposite the words' "Against
Compensation for Mayor and Councilmen". If at such elec-
tion a greater number of persons shall vote "For Compensa-
tion for Mayor and Councilmen" than shall vote "Against
Compensation for Mayor and Councilmen", then the provis-
ions of the aforegoing section of this Act shall become
effective and operative, the effective date of the provisions
of this Act, in the event the same is approved at said elec-
tion, to be the date that the Mayor and City Council of
Hyattsville, Maryland, a municipal corporation, shall de-
clare the result of said election in accordance with the pro-
visions of law or ordinances as provided herein and com-
pensation to said Mayor and Councilmen shall commence
with the first day of the month in which the result of said
election is so declared.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency law and necessary for the imme-
diate preservation of the public health and safety, and having
been passed by a yea and nay vote, supported by three-fifths
of all the members elected to each of the two Houses of the
General Assembly of Maryland, the same shall take effect from
the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 304.
(House Bill 502)

AN ACT to authorize and empower the Mayor and City Coun-
cil of Hyattsville, Maryland, a municipal corporation, to
borrow for its immediate and usual corporate purposes to
meet the existing deficiency in its budget a sum of money
not to exceed Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000.00).

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Mayor and City Council of Hyattsville, Mary-
land, a municipal corporation, be, and it is hereby authorized
and empowered to borrow from time to time upon the faith
and credit of the City of Hyattsville a sum of money not
