SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 216(a) of Article 11 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Frederick
County", sub-title "Frederick City", sub-heading "City Regis-
ter", as said section was amended by Chapter 618 of the Acts
of 1943, be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:

216(a). No person shall be City Register of said city un-
less he be at the time of his election a citizen of the United
States, above the age of twenty-five years, a freeholder in the
city within the taxable limits thereof, actually residing there-
in for three years next preceding his election. The annual
salary of the person elected City Register shall be Thirty-
six Hundred Dollars, which sum shall be his total com-
pensation. He shall also be collector of taxes for said
city, and whenever said City Register and tax collector
shall find it necessary to proceed by way of distress or execu-
tion to collect any tax levied by the Mayor and Aldermen of
Frederick, which it is hereby authorized by law to levy, he
shall, as far as practicable proceed in the same manner as is
now provided by the laws of the State of Maryland for the
collection of State and county taxes. At the beginning of
his term of office, and annually thereafter, he shall give bond
to the State of Maryland for the use of the Mayor and Alder-
men of Frederick City, in a penalty of Fifty Thousand Dol-
lars, with good and sufficient surety or sureties to be approved
by the Board of Aldermen, the premium of which said bond
shall be paid by the said the Mayor and Aldermen of Freder-
ick City, and the said bond shall be recorded in the office of
the Clerk of the Circuit Court for Frederick County, the con-
dition of said bond being that if the above Bounden........

................... shall well and faithfully execute the

office of the City Register of Frederick City and tax collector
for the said city, and shall account for and pay over to the
Mayor and Aldermen of Frederick City the several sums of
money which he shall receive for the Mayor and Aldermen of
Frederick City, or be answerable for by law, at such times
as the laws and ordinances of the said city and the orders and
resolution of said Board of Aldermen shall direct, then the
said obligation to be void, otherwise to be and remain in full
force and virtue in law.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1947.
