such other acts and duties in relation to said Grand Jury
as are necessary and proper.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency law and necessary for the imme-
diate preservation of the public health and safety, and having
been passed by a yea and nay vote, supported by three-fifths
of all the members elected to each of the two Houses of the
General Assembly of Maryland, the same shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 223.
(House Bill 195)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections
748 and 749 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Prince
George's County (1943 Flack's Edition), sub-title "Hyatts-
ville", providing for appointment of the City Treasurer in-
stead of his election, prescribing his qualifications and
term of office, and removing present limit on his salary.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted "by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Sections 748 and 749 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Prince George's County (1943 Flack's Edition), sub-
title "Hyattsville", be and the same are hereby repealed and
re-enacted, to read as follows:

748. On the third Monday in May, 1947, and on the third
Monday in May in each and every second year thereafter, one
person, a legal voter in said town, and owner of real estate to
the value of at least One Hundred Dollars, shall be appointed
by the Mayor and City Council of Hyattsville as its Treasurer,
to serve for two years, and until his successor shall qualify,
but before said Treasurer shall enter upon his duties, he shall
give bond payable to the Mayor and City Council of Hyatts-
ville, in such penalty as the Mayor and City Council may fix,
with surety to be approved by it, conditioned as it may direct,
and the said Treasurer shall qualify and enter upon the duties
of his office on or before the first Monday in June succeeding
his appointment, and a failure to qualify within the time
herein specified shall be deemed a refusal to accept the office,
whereupon the Mayor and City Council shall make a new ap-
pointment to fill the vacancy. In the event of the death,
