surance company or a duly licensed general life insurance
agent or a branch office of a life insurance company hav-
ing authority to appoint agents, to solicit insurance for
such company or on behalf of the general agent or branch
office appointing him, but without the power or authority
to issue or countersign policies or otherwise bind the com-
pany, general agent or branch office for or through which he
acts as soliciting agent.

(d) A solicitor is hereby defined to be any indivi-
dual acting under written authority from a company or
duly licensed agent for any company other than a life insur-
ance company or a branch office of a life insurance company,
having authority to appoint solicitors, to solicit insurance
for such company on behalf of the agent or company or
branch office of the company appointing him, but without
the power or authority to issue or countersign policies or
otherwise bind the company for which he is licensed.

(e) An agency may operate its business affairs as a co-
partnership or corporation, provided all individuals actively
engaged in the insurance business of such agency shall hold
an unexpired general agent's or an agent's license issued in
accordance with the provisions of this Article.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1947.

CHAPTER 207.
(House Bill 96)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
101 of Article 81 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1943 Supplement), as amended by Chapter 560 of the Acts
of 1945, title "Revenue and Taxes", sub-title "Insurance
Taxes", providing that credits allowed policy holders on
premiums under industrial life insurance policies paid di-
rectly to the company's home office or branch office shall
not be reported for taxation, and making the same retro-
active to October 1, 1941.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 101 of Article 81 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1943 Supplement), as amended by Chapter 56'0
