CHAPTER 189.
(House Bill 20)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
697 of Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1939
Edition), title "Crimes and Punishments", sub-title "Chel-
tenham School for Boys", extending the time within which
the Board of Managers of the House of Reformation may
expend the funds reserved to said Board when the insti-
tution was transferred to the State of Maryland.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 697 of Article 27 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Crimes and Punishments",
sub-title "Cheltenham School for Boys", be and it is hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
697. The House of Reformation, a body politic and cor-
porate of the State of Maryland, in consideration of the
State of Maryland assuming its obligations to the colored
male minors under its care and custody, is hereby authorized
and empowered to transfer its property real, personal and
mixed, reserving, however, out of the cash on hand and ac-
counts receivable as of October 1st, 1937, the sum of $30,-
000.00; and the Board of Public Works of the State of Mary-
land for the consideration aforesaid, is authorized, empowered
and directed to receive a good and sufficient deed transfer-
ring to the State of Maryland, as of October 1st, 1937, its
said real and personal property located at Cheltenham, Mary-
land, which shall thenceforth be known as Cheltenham School
for Boys.
The sum of $30,000.00 hereinabove referred to shall be held
by the House of Reformation, a body politic and corporate,
and invested or reinvested from time to time, only in bonds
of the State of Maryland or of its Cities or Counties; said
fund to be under the control and management of the Board
of Managers of said House of Reformation, and to be dis
bursed by said Board from time to time, in its discretion,
both interest and principal, for the uses and purposes of the
Cheltenham School for Boys, or for the benefit of the past
and present employees of said House of Reformation, or
both. Any unexpended balance of said fund, not used for
the purposes aforesaid within fifteen years from October 1st,
1937, shall be paid over by said Board to the Treasurer of
the State of Maryland, and thereupon said Board shall take
steps to effect the dissolution of said body corporate.
