of Circuit Courts", Section 65 having been amended by
Chapter 510 of the Laws of 1945, relating to recording in-
struments affecting title to or interest- in both land and
personal property.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted 'by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 65 of Article 17 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Clerks of Courts", sub-title
"Clerks of Circuit Courts", as amended by Chapter 510 of the
Laws of 1945, be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:

65. The Clerks of the Circuit Courts for the several counties
and of the Superior Court of Baltimore City shall record all
deeds, mortgages and other instruments affecting the title to
or any interest in land, required to be recorded, in a well-bound
book or books to be styled "Land Records"; and shall record
all bills of sale, chattel mortgages and other instruments affect-
ing the title to or any interest in personal property, required to
be recorded, in another well-bound book or books to be styled
"Chattel Records"; any such instrument affecting the title to
or any interest in both land and personal .property shall be so
recorded in such Land Records only, and not in such Chattel
Records, but in such case, the index of Chattel Records and
the general alphabetical index provided for in Section 69 of
this Article, shall include a notation that such instrument
has been recorded among such Land Records, and such nota-
tion in such index shall have the same effect as if
such instrument were recorded in full among such Chattel
Records; all of which books shall be provided by said clerks
and each of which books shall contain an alphabetical index
of the names of all parties to such instruments of writing as
are recorded therein; provided that they shall not be required
to record or receive for recording, any deed, mortgage, bill of
sale, chattel mortgage, or other instrument of writing, unless
the fees for recording the same as regulated by law shall first
be paid by the person offering the same for record.

69. They shall make a full and complete general alpha-
betical index (unless the same shall have already been done)
in a book or books, well bound for that purpose, of all deeds,
mortgages, bills of sale, short assignments of mortgages, and
other conveyances of record in their respective offices, which
index shall be both in the names of each and all the grantors,
bargainers, donors, mortgagors or assignors, and each and all
of the grantees, bargainees, donees, mortgagees or assignees,
and shall refer to the book and page of the record of the
several conveyances designating the same. The said Clerks
shall also make a similar full and complete alphabetical index
