The Police Civil Service Commissioner is authorized to
certify the payment from the said Police Fund of a sum not
exceeding Seventy-five ($75.00) Dollars in any one case to
defray funeral expenses of any deceased member of the Police
Department of said county, dying while in the service thereof.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1947.

CHAPTER 891.
(Senate Bill 173)

AN ACT to add nine new sections to Article 32 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1939 Edition), title
"Dentistry," to be under new sub-title "Dental Hy-
gienist", said new sections to be known as Sections 25-
33, inclusive, and to follow immediately after Section 24
of said Article, relating to the practice and licensing
of dental hygiene.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That nine new sections be and they are hereby added to
Article 32 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1939
Edition), title "Dentistry,". to be under new sub-title
"Dental Hygienists," said new sections to be known
as Sections 25-33, inclusive, to follow immediately after
Section 24 of said Article, and to read as follows:

DENTAL HYGIENISTS

25. (a) The practice of dental hygiene is defined for
the purposes of this sub-title as the removal of deposits,
accretions and stains from the exposed surface of the
teeth and may include the polishing of the same and the
charting of cavities during such operations.

(b) A dental hygienist is defined for the purposes of
this sub-title as one, other than a duly licensed dentist,
who practices dental hygiene in the private offices of a
duly licensed dentist or in a private office or dental clinic
provided by a Federal, State, county or municipal agency
or in hospitals, schools or charitable institutions or in an
industrial clinic, supervised by a licensed dentist and con-
ducted solely for employees of the person, firm or corpora-
