CHAPTER 707.
(House Bill 124)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
492 of Article 4 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Mary-
land and Baltimore City Charter (1938 Edition), title
"Baltimore City", sub-title "Criers, Bailiffs, Watchmen and
Stenographers", as said section was amended by Chapter
640 of the Acts fo 1945, relating to the compensation of
the watchmen in the Court House in Baltimore City.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 492 of Article 4 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland and Baltimore City Charter (1938
Edition), title "Baltimore City", sub-title "Criers, Bailiffs,
Watchmen and Stenographers", as said section was amended
by Chapter 640 of the Acts of 1945, be and it is hereby re-
pealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
492. Beginning January 1st, 1948, and continuing during
the year 1948, the City Register shall pay to the watchmen
authorized by Sections 491 and 493 the sum of Seventeen Hun-
dred and Twenty-five Dollars per annum, as and for their
respective salaries, in the same manner as is provided for the
payment of the salaries of the bailiffs of the courts.
Beginning January 1st, 1949, and thereafter the City Reg-
ister shall pay to such watchmen such salaries as may be
provided for that purpose in the annual Ordinances of Esti-
mates of the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore from time
to time.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1947.

tion 2 of Section 142 of Article 77 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1943 Supplement), title "Public Education",
sub-title "Chapter 11. County Superintendent of Schools",
to eliminate the title of attendance officer, to provide for the
