474. (Eligibility Requirements for Examinations.) (a)
No person shall be permitted by the Board to take an exam-
ination to receive a certificate as an operator unless such
person shall be at least sixteen years of age, have an eighth
grade education, or its equivalent, and has been registered
as a student and has had training, as hereinafter provided
in this sub-title, in a beauty school duly registered by the
Board of at least 1,500 hours training, or serve as an
apprentice in an approved beauty shop for a period of
not less than two years; provided, however, that the Board
may permit a person to take an examination without the
prior studentship herein required if such person shall estab-
lish, to the satisfaction of the Board, that he or she has been,
an operator in the active practice of beauty culture for at
least twenty-four months within the five years next pre-
ceding the effective date of this Act.

(b) No person shall be permitted to take an examination
to act as a demonstrator who shall not have had all the
qualifications necessary to become an operator.

(c) No person shall be permitted to take an examination
to act as a junior manager of a beauty shop unless such per-
son shall be at least 18 years of age and has had at least 24
months' experience as an operator in a beauty shop or, in lieu
of said 24 months' experience, 2,000 hours of training at a
registered school of beauty culture inclusive of the studies:
necessary to become an operator. No person shall be per-
mitted to take an examination to act as a senior manager
unless such person has had 12 months' experience working as
a junior manager. Provided, however, that on or before
October 1, 1947, any licensed operator who had 18 months' ex-
perience shall, on application, be issued a senior manager
license without examination,

(d) No person shall be permitted to take an examination
for a certificate to teach beauty culture unless such person
shall be at least 18 years of age and has had at least four
years' experience as an operator in a beauty shop, two years
of which must have been as a manager, or, in lieu of said
two years' experience as manager, 2,000 hours in a duly
registered school of beauty culture, inclusive of the studies
necessary to become an operator, and 12 months practical
experience in a shop or as a junior teacher in a school. An
examination must be taken at the completion of the 2,000
hours school training, at which time a junior teacher's exam-
ination shall be given, and another examination must be
taken at the end of the one year of practice, at which time
a senior teacher license shall be issued to those qualifying.
