or member of the Police Department injured or disabled in
the performance of his duty shall receive full compensa-
tion for such time as he may be prevented from perform-
ing such duties on account of the injuries or disabilities
thus received, and in addition thereto, shall be entitled to
all medical, hospital and surgical expenses resulting from
said injury or injuries.
38A. The base or grade salary of the members of the
Police Department of the City of Cumberland shall be
as follows:
The Chief of Police shall receive $278.00 per month; the
Assistant Chief of Police shall receive $242.00 per month;
the Lieutenant of Police shall receive $218.00 per month;
each Sergeant shall receive $205.00 per month; each Patrol-
man and Detective shall receive $170.00 per month during
the first year of service and $200.00 per month for each
month thereafter. No member of the Police Department
shall receive less than $200.00 per month after one year
of service. In case any officer shall be called for extra
duty in case of an emergency, he shall receive no extra
compensation therefor.
It shall be the duty of the Commissioner of Police and
Fire of Cumberland to estimate annually the sum of money
necessary for the salaries as herein prescribed, and he
shall certify the same to the Mayor and City Council,
who are hereby required to levy such amount which shall
be placed in a special fund for the members of the Police
Department and shall not be used for any other purpose.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1947.

(Senate Bill 407)
AN ACT to add a new section to Article 22 of the Code
of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title
"Washington County," sub-title "Hagerstown," sub-
heading "Pensions," said new section to be known as
Section 430A and to follow immediately after Section 430
of said Article, authorizing the Mayor and Council of
Hagerstown to establish a pension and retirement
system.
