SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That a new section be and it is hereby added to Article
5 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930
Edition), title "Calvert County", sub-title "Sheriff", said
new section to be known as Section 281A, to follow im-
mediately after Section 281 of said Article, and to read
as follows:

281A. The Sheriff of Calvert County shall be paid an
annual salary of Three Thousand Dollars ($3,000.), and
Eighteen Hundred Dollars ($1,800.) for expenses all to be
paid in equal monthly installments, and shall not be entitled
to any other compensation or expenses except the payments
for keeping and boarding prisoners. The County Com-
missioners of Calvert County shall levy the said amounts
for the use of said Sheriff and may, in their discretion,
increase or decrease the compensation or expenses of the
Sheriff. On or before the 10th day of each month, the
Sheriff shall account for and pay to the County Commis-
sioners of said County the fees collected by him during the
preceding month, and the said Commissioners shall so keep
their books as to show the total fees so received from the
Sheriff.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the compen-
sation and expenses provided for by this Act shall be paid
beginning on the date when the Sheriff is elected in Novem-
ber, 1946, assumed office, and the said Sheriff shall ac-
count for and pay to the County Commissioners of
Calvert County all fees and costs collected by him since
he assumed office.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1947.
