CHAPTER 549.
(Senate Bill 326)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sec-
tion 1 of Chapter 322 of the Acts of 1945, increasing
the amount of the tax which may be levied and expended
for road maintenance on Gibson Island.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 1 of Chapter 322 of the Acts of 1945 be and
it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments,
to read as follows:

1. The County Commissioners of Anne Arundel County
shall take charge of the maintenance and repairs of the
roads within the limits of Gibson Island in the Third
Election District of Anne Arundel County.

Hereafter, at the time of making the annual levy, the
County Commissioners of Anne Arundel County shall
annually levy on land subject to taxation within the limits
of Gibson Island, a special road tax of not more than
fifty cents per hundred, on all assessable property, as
laid out and shown on the plat of Gibson Island, which
said tax shall be used only for road maintenance and
repair on Gibson Island, and which special tax shall be
in addition to the general tax now provided by law.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1947.

CHAPTER 550.
(Senate Bill 327)

AN ACT to add a new section to Article 5 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title
"Calvert County", sub-title "Sheriff", said new section
to be known as Section 281A and to follow immediately
after Section 281 of said Article, relating to the com-
pensation and expenses of the Sheriff of Calvert County.

WHEREAS, the adoption of the Constitutional Amend-
ment submitted by Chapter 786, of the Acts of 1945, re-
quires the compensation of all Sheriffs to be fixed by law;
therefore
