On motion by Mr. Gorman, it was

Ordered, That when the Senate adjourns to-day, it stand
adjourned until Tuesday next, at 12 o'clock, M.

Which was adopted by yeas and nays, as follows:

The Clerk of the House of Delegates appeared and deliv-
ered the following message:

BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES,

January 18th, 1878.
Gentlemen of the Senate:

We propose, with the concurrence of your Honorable
Body, to appoint a Joint and Special Committee of five
(three from this House and two from the Senate) to notify
the Honorable James B. Groome that he has been this day
duly elected to represent this State in the United States Sen-
ate for six years, from and after the 4th day of March 1879.
We have appointed on the part of this House Messrs. Turner,
Carmichael and Higgins.
