Senate bill entitled an Act to add a section to the 53d Ar-
ticle of the Code oi Public General Laws, title "Landlord
and Tenant," sub-title "Distress for Kent,"

Was read the second time, and ordered to be engrossed for
a third reading.

Senate bill entitled an Act to incorporate the town of
Taneytown, in Carroll County, State of Maryland,

Being upon its second reading,

Mr. Lee submitted the following amendments :

AMENDMENTS PROPOSED.
Strike out Section 31, and insert as follows :

"SEC. 31. And be it enacted, That this charter shall be sub-
mitted to the qualified voters of Taneytown, at an election to
be held on the 3rd Monday in April, 1878, for its ratification
or rejection, and if accepted by a majority of the ballets cast

at such election, its provisions shall go into effect; but if re-
jected by a majority of the ballots cast at such election; it
shall be null and void.

"SEC. 32. And be it enacted, That if the Act is ratified and
accepted by the qualified voters of Taneytown at the election
to be held under the provisions of the preceding section, the
first election for Commissioners, provided for in Section 3, of
this Act, shall take place on the 1st Monday in May, next

succeeding, and the Chief Judge of the Circuit Court for Car-
roll County shall appoint two Judges of Election to hold the
election provided for in the preceding section, and the first
corporate election provided for in this section, and thereafter
the Judges of the corporate elections shall be appointed an-
nually by the Board of Town Commissioners.

"SEC. 33. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage."

Which were adopted.

Said bill was then read the second time, and ordered to be

engrossed for a third reading.

On motion by Mr. Cosper, (the rules were suspended,)
so as to give a third reading this day to

Senate bill entitled an Act to authorize the Trustees of the
African Metnodist Church, or Society, on Fells Point, Bal-
timore, to sell lot No. 690, and to re-invest the proceeds;
