On motion by Mr. Cooper,
The vote by which

Senate bill entitled an Act to add an additional section to
Article 40, of the Code of Public General Laws, title "Fines
and Forfeitures," was passed,

Was reconsidered.

Said bill was then referred to the Baltimore City Senators.

Mr. Dennis presented the petition of John S. Sudler and
others, citizens of Somerset County, for the appointment of an
additional Justice of the Peace in Princess Anne District, or
Election District No. 1, in Somerset County.

"Which was read, and referred to Senators Dennis, Frank-
lin and Humphreys.

On motion by Mr. Sulivane, it was

Ordered, That the Comptroller of the Treasury be, and he
is hereby requested to inform, the Senate of the cause or
causes of the large reduction in the March distribution to the
free schools of the State, and also what arrangement has been
made, if any, for the payment of the sum of $306,850.67,
belonging to said schools, but withheld last year as per report
of the ex-Comptroller.

Mr. Lee, from a Select Committee, reported favorably,

House bill entitled an Act to authorize the Clerk of the
Circuit Court of Carroll County to pay to the County Com-
missioners the excess of fees that have or may accrue in his
office for county purposes, indexing land ana chattel records,
&c.

Which was read the second time.

Mr. Bannon, from a Select Committee, reported favorably,

House bill entitled an Act to authorize, empower and di-
rect the County Commissioners of Anne Arundel County to
rebuild and repair the county iail in said county, and to make
an addition thereto,

With the following amendments :

AMENDMENTS PROPOSED.

Amend by striking out "Section two," and insert in lieu
thereof the following :

"Be it enacted, That the said County Commissioners shall,
aa soon as practicable, cause drawing to be made of the new
part, and estimates made of the necessary repairs, and adver-
