Mr. Stump submitted the following amendment :
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.

.In Chapter 19, Section 6, in last line, strike out "April"

and insert "June."

Which was adopted.

Mr. Sulivane submitted the following amendment:
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.

"Under the head of "Miscsllaneous," Section 1, line 3, strike
out the words from "out" to the word "appointed," in line
4, inclusive, and insert in lieu thereof the words "until after
"the election or appointment and qualification of their succes-
sors, as in this Act provided.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Stump submitted the following amendment:
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.

Sec. 4. Chapter 8, page 23, line 6, after the word "Edu-

cation," insert "or they may suspend any teacher for incom-
petency, inefficiency or neglect of duty.

Mr. Bannon submitted the following amendment.
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.

"Section 1. The State Board of Education shall consist of
seven members, one of them to be elected by the qualified
voters of each of the following Congressional Districts of this

State, at the next election to be held for members of Congress
of the United States in November, 1878. One from the first,
one from the second, one from the fifth, aad one from the
sixth, and two members of said Board shall be nominated by
the Governor, by and with the consent of the Senate. The
members of said Board shall be divided by lot, into two

classes of three each, one of the appointees by the Governor,
to be in each class, and those of the first class shall go out of
office at the expiration of two years, and those of the second
class at the end of four years from the first day of January
succeeding their election or appointment, or when their suc-
cessors have been elected and qualified, and after the first

election and appointment of members of said Board, the first
