Mr. Dennis, from a Select Committee, reported favorably,

House bill entitled an Act to regulate the fences in Brink-
ley's, Lawson's and Crisfield Districts, in Somerset County,

With the following amendments:

AMENDMENTS PROPOSED.

1. In the title, strike out the word "Crisfield."

2. In second line, strike out the word "Crisfield."

3. Add to the end of the 1st Section, "provided, neverthe-
less, that such assessment of damages by said two persons so
appointed by said Justice, shall not be deemed and taken as
conclusive, but either party shall be at liberty to controvert
the same, and such judgment shall be given, as upon the
whole evidence, shall seem to be right and proper."

4. In 5th line of 3d Section, strike out the weird "four."

5. In Section 5, line 3, strike out "four."

6. Add to the 5th Section, line 9, as follows: "but either
party may controvert the evidence and opinion of said per-
son or persons by other witnesses, and such judgment shall
be given upon the whole evidence, as to the Justice or the
Court, as the case may be, seems right and proper."

7. Line 2, Section 6, strike out the word "four."

8. Add to the end of Section 6, as follows: "but nothing
in this Act shall be construed or held, to authorize any Jus-
tice of the Peace to have jurisdiction in any case where the
title to land is involved."

9. Section 7, line 2, strike out the word "four,"

10. Section 7, line 3, strike out "Crisfield."

11. Section 8, line 2, strike out "four."

12. Section 8, line 4, strike out "four."

13. Section 8, line 6, strike out "four."

14. Add the following additional section.

"Section 9. And be it enacted, That all laws inconsistent
with the provisions of this Act are hereby repealed."

Which were adopted.

Said bill as amended, was then read the second time.
