House bill entitled an Act to more effectually protect trav-
ellers against the payment of illegal tolls, which may be

charged by any of the several Turnpike Companies chartered
under the Act of 1804, Chapter 51, or any supplement
thereto.

Which was read the second time.

Also, favorably,

House bill entitled an Act to authorize the Mayor and City

Council of Baltimore to purchase the whole or any part of
the second preferred mortgage bonds and coupons of the
Western Maryland Railroad Company, and fund certificates
representing such coupons, and to issue its stock or certifi-
cate of indebtedness, so far as may be necessary for the said

object, to an amount not exceeding the sum of $400,000.

Whicb was read the second time.

Also, favorably,

House bill entitled an Act to repeal Sections 7, 10, 11, 13,
14, 16 and 21, Chapter 77, of the Acts of the General As-
sembly, passed at January Session, 1870, entitled an Act to
incorporate the town of Frostburg, in Allegany County, and
re-enact the same with amendments, and to add two addi-
tional sections thereto, number 34 and 35.

Which was read the second time.

Also, favorably,

Senate bill entitled an Act to authorize the construction
;and maintenance of a line of telegraph from the House of
Correction, at Jessup's Station, in Anne Arundel County, to
the Police Headquarters in Baltimore City, from the House
of Refuge, in Baltimore City, and from the State Peniten-
tiary, to the Police Headquarters in Baltimore City.

Also, reported

House bill entitled an Act to give additional corporate
powers to the House of the Good Shepherd of the City of
Baltimore, and to provide for the commitments thereto of dis-
olute and disorderly females, for the purpose of reformation,

With the following proposed amendment :
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.

Strike out all after the word "for," in Section 8, line 6,
and insert "the sum of fifteen hundred dollars on each of the
days aforesaid."
