FRIDAY, March 8th, 1878.
Senate met pursuant to adjournment.
Prayer by the Rev. L. D. Travers.
Present at roll call the following Senators :

Messrs. President, Bannon, Combs, of Allegany, Combs,
of St. Mary's, Cooper, Dennis, Franklin, Freeman, Garey,
Gorman, Hepbron, Hill, Joyce, Lancaster, Lee, McLane,
Miller, Newcomer, Peter, Steiner, Stump, Sulivane, Welfley,
Wilson—24.

The proceedings of yesterday were read and approved.

The President presented to the Senate the petition of
Joseph B. Seth, Charles H. Gibson and others, citizens of
Talbot County, praying for the passage of an Act to prevent
the taking or catching of fish other than by hook and line for
the period of four years, and that terrapins shall only be
caught with oyster tongs or paws in the waters of Wye and
Miles rivers.

Which was read, and referred to Senators Lloyd, Miller
and Ford.

Mr. Lee presented the petition of about 700 citizens of Car-
roll County, praying for a Local Option Law.

Which was read, and referred to the Committee on Tem-
perance.

Mr. Lancaster presented the petition of James Harris and
21 others, citizens of the Fifth Election District of Charles
County, against the passage of a law closing the voting pre-
cinct at Harris' Lot for the purpose of consolidating it with
Alien's Fresh.

Which was read, and referred to Senators Lancaster,
Combs, of St. Mary's, and Gorman.

On motion by Mr. Miller, it was

Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal that Senator
Ford, of Queen Anne's County, is absent to-day on impor-
tant private business.

On motion by Mr. Bannon, it was

Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal that Senator
Combs, of Allegany County, was absent yesterday on public
business.
