OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY OF THE SENATE,

January 15th, 1878.

The Joint Resolution extending the time of the Honorable
James A. Stewart, Chief Judge of the First Judicial Cir-
cuit, and Associate Judge of the Court of Appeals, having
passed both branches of the General Assembly, was this day
filed in the office of the Clerk of the Court of Appeals of
Maryland.

AUGUSTUS GASSAWAY,

Secretary.

Mr. Sulivane presented the petition of Thomas K. Smith
and 112 other citizens of Dorchester County, praying for the
repeal of the Act of 1870, Chapter 394. exempting mort-
gages from taxation.

Which was read, and referred to the Committee on Finance.

Mr. Freeman presented the petition of Delilah McRobie,
of Garrett County, widow of John McRobie, a soldier of the
war of 1812, asking that her name be placed on the pension
roll.

Which was read, and referred to the Committee on Pen-
sions.

Mr. Freeman presented the petition of Elizabeth Ford, of
Baltimore City, widow of Thomas Ford, a soldier of the war
of 1812, asking that her name be placed on the pension roll.

Which was read, and referred to the Committee on Pen-
sions.

On motion by Mr. Sulivane,

Leave was granted to Senators Sulivane, Humphreys and
Steiner to introduce a bill, to be entitled an Act to authorize
and direct the County Commissioners of Talbot County to
appoint an additional Constable for the First Election Dis-
trict of said county.
