The Senators having returned to the Senate Chamber,

Leave of absence was granted to Mr. Peter until Wednes-
day next.

On motion by Mr. Humphreys,
At 1. 40 P. M. the Senate went into Executive Session.

At 1. 45 P. M. the Senate resumed the consideration of
Legislative Business.

On motion by Mr. Cooper,
At 1. 45 P. M. the Senate adjourned.

TUESDAY, January 15th, 1878.
Senate met pursuant to adjournment.
Prayer by the Rev. B. S. Highley.
Present at roll call the following Senators:

Messrs. President, Bannon, Combs, of Allegany, Combs,
of St. Mary's, Cooper, Dennis, Ford, Franklin, Freeman,
Garey, Gorman, Hepbron, Hill, Humphreys, Joyce, Lan-
caster, Lee, McLane, Miller, Peter, Steiner, Stump, Suli-
vane, Welfley, Wilson—25

The proceedings of Friday were read and approved.

The President presented to the Senate the following com-
munication from the Comptroller of the Treasury:

TREASURY DEPARTMENT,
Annapolis, January 15th, 1878.
Hon. Edward Lloyd, President of the Senate:

Dear Sir: —In obedience to the order of the Senate, dated 9th
January, 1878, 1 have the honor to transmit to your Honorable
Body a statement of the number of dredging licenses issued
by the Comptroller for the season up to January 1st, 1878,
and the amounts of money paid therefor, with the names of
the vessels licensed, and the several counties and City of Bal-
