Joint Convention for the election of a Police Commissioner
for Baltimore City.

JOINT CONVENTION.

The Senators of Maryland, accompanied by the Secretary
of the Senate, appeared in the Hall of the House of Dele-
gates.

The Speaker, as Chairman of the Joint Convention, then
announced that the Senate and House would now, in Joint
Convention, proceed to the election of a Police Commissioner
for the City of Baltimore, as agreed upon between the two
Houses, and in accordance with the provisions of the Act of
Assembly of January Session, 1874.

The Chairman appointed Mr. Peter on the part of the Sen-
ate., and Mr. Perkins on the part of the House of Delegates,
to act as tellers.

Mr. Smith nominated John Milroy.

Mr. Steiner nominated Samuel M. Shoemaker.

The Secretary of the Senate and the Clerk of the House of
Delegates called the rolls of their respective Houses,

Whereupon, each Senator and Member proceeded to ballot.

Upon counting the ballots, Mr. Peter, upon the part of
the tellers, made the following report:

The tellers appointed, respectfully report:

John Milroy received.................................. 68 votes.

Samuel M. Shoemaker received..................... 16 "

And there was one blank ballot..................... 1

Whole number of votes cast......................... 85

Whereupon,

It appearing that John Milroy had received a majority of
all the votes cast,

The Chairman declared John Milroy duly elected to the
office of Police Commissioner of the City of Baltimore for
the ensuing term of six years.

The Chairman then announced that the Joint Convention
had finished the business for which it had assembled.

Whereupon,

The Joint Convention adjourned.
