TUESDAY, March 5th, 1878.
Senate met pursuant to adjournment
Prayer by the Rev. L. D. Travers.
Present at roll call the following Senators :

Messrs. Bannon, Combs, of Allegany, Combs, of St. Mary's,

Cooper, Dennis, Ford, Freeman, Garey, Gorman, Hepbron,
Joyce, Lancaster, Lee, McLane, Miller, Peter, Steiner,
Stump, Sulivane, Welfley, Wilson—21.

The President of the Senate being absent from the seat of
government, the Senate proceeded to the election of a Presi-
dent pro tem., and,

On motion by Mr. McLane,
Mr. Lee was elected President pro tem.
The proceedings of yesterday were read and approved.

Mr. Wilson presented the petition of William E. Harding
and 40 others, citizens of Calvert County, against the repeal
of the Local Option Law for said county.

Which was read, and referred to the Committee on Tem-
perance.

Mr. Lancaster presented the petition of Joseph W. Allen
and 119 others, citizens of Charles County, praying for Lo-
cal Option for said county.

Which was read, and referred to the Committee on Tem-
perance.

Mr. Freeman presented the resolutions, in the nature of a
memorial, of the Baptist Preachers' Meeting of Baltimore,
praying for the passage of the Local Option Bill now pend-
ing in the House of Delegates.

Which was read, and referred to the Committee on Tem-
perance.

Mr. Lee presented the petition of P. A. Long and 38
others, citizens of the town of Taneytown, Carroll County,
praying for an Act to incorporate said town.

Which was read, and referred to the Committee on Cor-
porations.

Mr. Sulivane presented the petition of 150 citizens of Dor-

chester County, praying for an enabling Act to authorize the
